Extracurricular AI (ExAI) is an open software community. We build our own software and curate work by others. We want charming, easy-to-use software to reach more people, and everyone to have a chance to help it grow.

What we care about

We love software that solves a real problem and feels good to use. Its charm might come from a playful interface, a thoughtful interaction, or a small detail that makes you smile. We want software to make everyday life easier and a little more joyful.

That experience guides both what we build and what we curate. Recommend your own creation or a tool you stumbled across, and help good work find people who will love it.

Building and discovering together

Our first public project is Open Deep Research, an open replication of OpenAI’s Deep Research capability. It runs multi-agent pipelines in the background, streams results in real time, and provides a lightweight Preact interface.

Development gives us experience to share; curation introduces us to more good ideas. Our blog is a place for development stories, software discoveries, and practical experiences, with community feedback helping us decide what to improve next.

An open community, a variety of software

Our community includes many open source projects and welcomes software with different licenses and pricing models. Whatever its license or price, we care about quality, usability, and how it feels to use. Check each project for its terms, costs, and ways to contribute.

Being open means welcoming people and ideas. Users, creators, and people making their first contribution all have a place here.

Start with something small

• Recommend software. Share a link, what it does, what you like, and how to try it.
• Share your experience. Tell us what works, what is confusing, or which detail could be better. Feedback helps improve our software and collection.
• Improve a project. Add to the docs, fix a small bug, or open a PR with a new feature. We respond constructively, help refine contributions, and keep the process light so suitable changes can be merged sooner.
• Share what you find and learn. A writeup, a practical tip, or a recommendation to a friend can help the community grow.

You do not need to be an expert. A recommendation, a suggestion, or a little curiosity is enough to get started.
